In landfill, mining, aquaculture, and water containment systems, it is specified because the material must seal liquids and resist chemical and hydraulic loading under long-term pressure. Virgin HDPE resin forms a stable polymer structure during extrusion, which allows the sheet to transfer tensile stress evenly and maintain dimensional stability under settlement and overburden conditions (typical exposure pH 2–13).
During installation, the membrane conducts hot wedge or hot air welding to form continuous seams along overlaps. The process includes subgrade compaction, membrane deployment, welding, and air pressure testing to verify seam integrity before operation. In irrigation canals and landfill bases, the liner blocks seepage paths and supports water or waste containment, with thickness typically selected from 0.75 mm to 2.0 mm based on project design.
