PP Geogrid

PP Geogrid

Process:
Uniaxial Tensile: High longitudinal strength, weak transverse strength (suitable for uniaxial load-bearing scenarios).
Biaxial Tensile: Balanced strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
Features: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, low cost, but poor temperature resistance (PP setting point can reach 140°C).
Applications: Conventional engineering projects such as roadbed reinforcement, retaining walls, and slope protection.

PP Geogrid for Soil Reinforcement & Load Support

Formed by stretching into square or rectangular shapes, can be classified into uniaxial and biaxial stretching depending on the stretching direction during manufacturing. They are produced by punching holes in extruded polymer sheets (mostly polypropylene or high-density polyethylene) and then subjecting them to directional stretching under heating conditions. Uniaxial geogrids are made by stretching only along the length of the sheet; biaxial geogrids are made by further stretching the uniaxially stretched geogrid in a direction perpendicular to its length.

During the manufacturing process of PP geogrid, the polymer molecules rearrange and orient themselves during the heating and stretching process, strengthening the bonds between molecular chains and thus increasing its strength. Its elongation is only 10%–15% of the original sheet material. Adding anti-aging materials such as carbon black to the geogrid can give it better durability properties such as acid resistance, alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, and anti-aging properties.

What is PP Geogrid and how does it work?
Polypropylene Geogrid is a biaxial or uniaxial geosynthetic material designed to reinforce soil. It works by interlocking with aggregate particles, forming a stable mechanical structure that improves load distribution and reduces soil deformation.

What are the main advantages of PP compared to other materials?
It offers excellent cost-performance balance. It provides high tensile strength, strong resistance to chemical corrosion, and long-term durability. Compared with polyester or fiberglass geogrids, it is more economical and better suited for general soil stabilization applications.

What tensile strength should be selected for different projects?
The required tensile strength depends on the application:

Road subgrade stabilization: typically 20–30 kN/m

Heavy-duty roads or industrial yards: 30–50 kN/m

Soft soil reinforcement: higher strength may be recommended based on design calculations
